J001685 (IJA) COMPANY GRADE OFFICER'S MODEL 19 SWORD.

A model 19 (1886) parade sword with scabbard. The sword’s brass hilt has a guard with a pierced cherry blossom motif to it, a thin knuckle bow, and an "eared" back strap which is also partially decorated with cherry blossoms. The blade is slightly curved and has long fullers to both of its sides. Moderate to heavy surface spotting and pitting may be seen along the length of the blade. Blade is a bit loose. Scabbard complete. Its nickel-silver plated scabbard has two hangers and a drag. The sword is held in the scabbard by a push fit. Nice worn and used example showing the expected age and wear.
