J001294 (IJA) LATE WAR FRONT AMMO POUCH.
Standard issue, model 30 (1897) ammunition pouch as used by the Japanese army throughout the war. The 15cm x 10cm, dual pocket, late war simulated, impregnated canvas/rubber pouch that originally would have held two groups of three five-round clips of 7.7mm ammunition. Double stitched hinge top flaps open outward and are each secured by a horizontal closure strap, with stud holes to each end, passing through vertical riveted-on loops to the flap tops, and attaching to steel studs on either side of the pouch. Two vertical belt loops are double stitched to the reverse. The interiors is separated into two compartments by a thick divider. As is expected, the canvas is quite stiff. Very nice example.
