J000393 (IJA) CASED OFFICER'S M38 VISOR CAP.
First introduced in 1905 and used until the end of the Second World War. Medium olive drab wool body and crown. The one-piece crown is piped in red wool to its edge. The four-piece body has seams at each of its cardinal points, with two metal grommet ventilation holes under each side of the crown. The IJA brass star affixed to the front of the center band. The cap has its original black patent finished chinstrap, with dual adjustment sliders, fixed by alloy officer’s buttons with embossed chrysanthemums. Black patent finished visor. The silk liner is complete with embroidered kanji , the sweatband is also complete, but has torn in half and has pulled away from the body in same section. There is some mothing to the folded edge between the body and the visor and sweatband. The red wool shows some fading, Approximately a size 51. The cardboard, two piece constructed carton measures approximately 16cm x 24cm x 28.5cm. There is a small paper label with kanji to the front. The lid has become a bit fragile and can be removed with some delicacy.
