A green enamel cross-paté with "40" to the upper arm, along with a central design that includes the acronym "S.M.V.B". The flat reverse bears as manufacture mark for Glaser & Sohn, Dresden. The medal is suspended from it’s original green and white tri-fold ribbon attached to mounting plate. The ribbon shows U.V. wear.
