G011781 IMPERIAL GERMAN ‘S.M.S. Loreley’ SAILOR'S PHOTOGRAPH. (Photographie)

A 7cm x 10.5cm, WW1 era portrait of a German sailor in dress uniform in Constantinople (Istanbul). A sailor the S.M.S. Loreley in a studio portrait taken by the photography studio of Sébah & Jocullier at 438 Grand Rue de Pera in Istanbul. The maker’s logo on the reverse in French shows how European the Pera Quarter of Istanbul was in this era. The German navy's Turkish Station ship, the yacht S.M.S. Loreley, was stationed at Constantinople from 1896 to 1918. She was sold to a private Turkish shipowner in 1925 and renamed the Hadji Pascha. Wonderful image with crisp, clear focus.
