G007778 PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD.
(Postkarte)A 3 3/8" x 5 3/8" postcard to whose obverse is a portrait photograph of a soldier in covered Pickelhaube, greatcoat and fixed-bayonet rifle, with a smaller image of the same man to the upper right with his wife and daughter. "O trocknet eure Tränen, ich sterb fürs Vaterland!" (O dry your tears, I died for [the] Fatherland!), followed by a brief poem, is to the upper left. To the reverse is a circular inkstamp reading "Essen (Ruhr)" with an October 1915 date. Another circular inkstamp to the left of the former has "Reserve-Lazarett Ernst Moritz Arndthaus" surrounding "Essen-Rütten-scheid." The publisher’s name and address is printed vertically to the extreme left. An address and note are written, in pencil and in Sütterlin script, to the reverse as well. Typical yellowing and age soiling, and some light wear along the edges of the card, may be seen.
