Imperial German Navy Tropical Pith Helmet. Textbook example of the M1903 Imperial German tropical pith helmet as worn by the Imperial German Navy, as seen on page 22 of The reference book Tropenhelme der kaiserliche Marine, der Ostasiatischen Truppen und der Schutztruppen by Ulrich Schiers (Published by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Heereskunde), upper left. (This exact helmet). White cotton fabric over a pressed cork body, with the gold Tresse band and Kokarde as worn by officers. Green interior with black leather sweatband separated from the cork body with cork spacers to allow air circulation inside the upper dome. Acceptance seal of the Imperial German Navy and size stamp 54 inside dome. No chinstrap. Near mint condition, a museum-quality example of this rare helmet.
