Imperial German Sea Battalion (Marine Corps) Officer’s Shako. Beautiful textbook example of the officer’s shako (brushed black felt body for officers, black leather for enlisted). Perfect original condition. Three labels inside. In the top of the dome behind the officers silk lining is the partially readable makers label in a green circle. Also present are an old museum label (a white rectangle with a blue border) and the collection inventory label from the famous Norm Hobson collection (the number 195 in ink on a white rectangle with a red border.) All of the imperial headgear in the legendary Norm Hobson collection had a label of this description, giving this shako extraordinary provenance and desirability. Officer’s liner in excellent condition but a little soiled. With rare original officer’s Feldzeichen in the slot above the fire gilded See Bataillon eagle.
