G004690 FLECHETTES

A fléchette is a sharp steel bullet with a vane tail for steady flight. The name comes from the French fléchette, "little arrow" or "dart ". They were used as ballistic weapons in the First World War. Dropped by biplanes or launched by artillery on trenches and shelters, in packages of about 500, they were able to pierce helmets and hit the enemy like arrow. The fléchette are round bars of carbide with a length of about ten centimeters with a diameter of between 5 and 10 Millimeters, with one pointed end and the other with sharp stabilizer fins, which also served as aerodynamic stabilizers during the fall being vertical and with the tip towards the target. Do not deceive the little offensive aspect: throw rain on the trenches, they had a devastating effect even from the psychological point of view. They measure approximately 12cm in length. Show high oxidation. One is marked "D.R.G.M" while the other is marked "Invention François, Fabrication Allemande" meaning ‘A French invention, German made’.
