A 33mm diameter medal featuring the left facing profile of the Grand Duke of Hesse surrounded by the words "Ernst Ludwig Grossherzog von Hessen" while the reverse has five lines encompassed by a oak and laurel branch that reads "Für Langjährige Treue Dienste" or "For Many Years of Loyal Service". Included and secured under the lid of the case is the original ribbon. The case measures approximately 2cm x 6cm x 7.5cm that has an embossed design, as well as the words "Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen" ( General Badge of Honor). A small latch is to the front.
