G003569 GERMAN PENINSULA COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL.

BACKGROUND: Instituted in 1909, the Peninsula Commemorative medal was issued in conjunction with the centenary of the 17th Regiment Hussars (Deaths Head) who fought during this war.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A brass 35cm diameter medal with the portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm- Duke of Brunswick to the front, while a skull with cross bones (representing the 17th Regiment) above a banner inscribed "Peninsula" and the dates 1809-1909. The brass suspension ring is also present. The ribbon does not correspond properly to the medal.
