G001189 IMPERIAL GERMAN WARRIOR MERIT MEDAL SECOND CLASS FOR COLONIAL TROOPS.

In 1892 a new Imperial German (rather than only Prussian) Warriors Merit Medal was instituted as an award for bravery for the Askari of East Africa. It consisted of a circular polished steel medal with a stylized "WR" monogram surmounted by a Prussian crown on the obverse and the motto "Krieger Verdienst" within a laurel wreath on the reverse. This is the second class version of the colonial troops medal in the smaller diameter with the narrower ribbon (2.5cm for Second Class). Excellent condition, scarce medal.
