H29148 ARTILLERY SIGHTING OPTICS.
(Zielfernrohr)Early, tooled brass and alloy construction sight with aluminum fittings. Sight is roughly 6" tall, with a 3" diameter, circular base. The ocular lense protrudes diagonally upwards from the sight when the objective lense is set at a level horizontal view. Top right side of sight has a vertical elevation adjustment dial with numerical markings from "0" to 90" with numerals at every tenth increment. Elevation adjustment dial also has a numerical adjustment viewing window with numerical markings from "0" to "1400" in increments of one hundred. Bottom edge of right side also has a horizontal left, right, directional adjustment dial with numerical markings from "0" to 90" with numerals at every tenth increment. Directional adjustment dial also moves the bottom circular base edge which has numerical markings from "1" to "64" in increments of one. Left side of sight has a horizontal ten centimeter ruler. Sight has two external, glass liquid levels, a light attachment slot for addition of a light source for night usage and an additional viewing window with numerical markings running from "0" in the center to "15" to both left and right. Viewing window is well marked with, "ostw." to left side indicating, ostwärts, (eastwards) and right side is marked, "westl.", indicating, westlich, (western). Optics are still quite crisp and clear and have a central "+" reticle pattern with numerical markings of a "0" to center extending outwards to both left and right to "40" in increments of ten. Ocular lense focus adjustment still functions but the protective eye socket has been removed. Sight is well marked with impressed army optical contract number, "H/6400", serial number, "95712", manufacturers code, "cme" indicating manufacture by Gebruder Wichmann Berlin, early lubricant code, "KF", and later blue "+" lubricant code. The "KF", lubricant code indicates, Kältefest, (cold resistant), which was effective to temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius and the blue "+" lubricant code indicates vacuum grease 1442 which was effective to temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius. The dual lubricant codes indicate the sight was refurbished during the war. Sight retains about 90% of its original field-grey paint with small spots of wear revealing the rust/red primer paint and the base metal. Bottom of sight has an extended, vertical tooled brass mount attachment receiver with integral tightening key. Nice early artillery sight in overall good condition.
