BACKGROUND: Formed in late 1932 the Deutsches Luftschutzverband, (German Air Protection League), was a voluntary organization designed to provide civil air raid protection in large civilian centers. Shortly after Hitler ascension to power the Deutsches Luftschutzverband was restructured and placed under the supervision of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium, (National Air Ministry), under the control of Hermann Göring. On April 29TH 1933 the Deutsches Luftschutzverband was renamed RLB, Reichs Luftschutz Bund, (National Air Raid Protection League) and was given status as an official national organization tasked with all aspects of civil air raid defence. One of the aspects of civil air raid defence was immediate medical attention to air raid victims which the RLB assisted the DRK, Deutsche Rote Kreuz, (German Red Cross) with.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 33cm x 14cm x 10cm, magnetic sheet metal case with a front wire handle, staggered hinge and sliding bar in green paint, is encased in a brown leather protective case that opens to the front and side panels allowing easy access. To the interior of the lid, is a white paper label with an entire listing of the contents, which are all there! The dates on the bandages, tags, etc. range from 1938 and 1937. To the underside of the leather carrying case, is "Lohmann K.G. Fahr. A Rh. K. Nr. RL5-37/116" "Vertrieb gemäß § 8 Luftschutzgesetz genehmigt", (Distribution approved in accordance with Air Defence Laws)." Wonderful unused case with contents!!
