H064777 ANTI-TANK TELLER MINE 35. (Panzermine T.Mi.35)

BACKGROUND: Originally developed in 1935 the Teller mine was to become the most widely used German anti-tank mine during WWII and was designed in at least four different models. The T.Mi.35 contained 5.5kg of TNT with a top pressure of 400 lbs (180kg) and a side pressure of 200 lbs (90kg). The pressure deforms the pressure plate that is made up of a spring and a shear pin that holds the spring loaded striker. Once released, the striker moves downward, hitting the percussion cap that causes a chain reaction to the detonator, booster charge and then the TNT. The mines were usually painted field grey.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A sheet steel anti-tank teller mine with a convex pressure plate with a central fuze well and fuze. The mine measures approximately 31cm in diameter with the bottom section missing. A fuze is present and is marked "RR 344-38" (the first "R" is backward), along with an Waffen Amt, as well as "Sicher" (safe) and "Scharf" (arm). The mine shows 20% of the original field grey paint. The pressure plate is clearly marked "F.W. 157, 1940". The handle is missing, but the loops for attachment are in place.
