BACKGROUND:
The overall neat, uniform, appearance and cleanliness of the German soldier was considered of enough importance by the Army High Command that personal and clothing hygiene items were either issued or available at reduced cost at military garrison canteens. Some of the personal and clothing hygiene items available included, foot powders, soaps, combs, shaving utensils and accessories, and assorted laundry soaps, etc., etc.. Although these types of items were readily attainable it seems most of the personnel preferred to use their own personal, private purchase, hygiene items. Of Note: As laundering items in the field was not always an option units were issued a standard clothing whip that was utilized to whip the dust and dirt from clothing, blankets and other fabric items in an attempt to keep them clean as.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly,16cm tall, 8cm wide, 4cm thick, mid-weight paper package of bleaching soda. Marked "Henkel’s Bleich = Soda".
