H056785 GERMAN ARMY SNARE DRUM WITH HANGER & STICKS.

BACKGROUND: By a German army order of August 1933, all military snare and side drums were to be painted white on the inside and on top of the wooden drum rings, whilst the outsides should have 39 red lacquered isosceles triangles along the outer edge, with 39 black triangles along the bottom edge, both pointing inwards, with the resulting squares pattern formed between the triangles in white.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 36cm diameter drum, with skins to either face, separated by a 8cm tall brass surround with upper and lower wooden bands. The top skin has a tear, while the top skin shows the expected usage and wear. Seven right-angle metal brackets are equidistantly riveted along both the upper and lower bands, with threaded metal posts fed between them. These control the tightening of both the upper and lower skins. Leg brace complete. Included are a pair of wooden sticks measuring approximately 42cm long with brass ends that have hollowed, square shape that fit on the spanner bolts of the drum for tuning. Remnants of black paint are to each stick. Included is a leather holster and a cast brass drum hanger roughly 70mm at widest point, and 100mm tall, hung from its blackened leather belt loop from a swiveling brass mount. The hanger itself is in the from of a right-facing eagle perched on a horizontal bar from which descend the two hooks for the drum. Shows the expected period use and wear.
