H043663 FIELD FLASHLIGHT.
(Feld Taschenlampe)BACKGROUND: The field flashlight was a standard issue item for all ranks and German army personnel utilized a wide variety of field flashlights including both private purchase and issued models. Generally the field flashlights were equipped with assorted colored lenses for signaling and dark, "black-out", lenses for camouflage purposes. This example appears to be a private purchase model.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 13cm tall, 7cm wide, 3cm thick, black painted, magnetic sheet metal construction field flashlight. The obverse of the flashlight features a roughly, 5cm diameter, clear glass lens to the top edge. The obverse body of the flashlight is well marked with the embossed manufactures name and model number, "Pertrix No. 679L". The top edge of the flashlight has an extended, spring loaded, turnable on/off switch which still functions. The side panels feature a, vertical, staggered, internal bar hinge to one side and a pressure closure clip to the other side. One side of the flashlight also has an extended, swivel tab that adjusts an internal "black-out" panel with a small square cut-out that slides over the clear lens to reduce the light emission. The reverse of the flashlight has two small, raised, rivetted on horizontal metal loops which secure a dual button holed, brown leather tab designed to allow the flashlight to be attached to the uniform buttons. The interior of the flashlight still retains all of is component parts including a light bulb, but the battery is absent. Light surface rusting to the interior. The flashlight retains about 90% of its original black paint.
