(Jäger Ärmelabzeichen)BACKGROUND: German Jäger Divisions were first formed in December 1940, by reorganizing Infantry Divisions into light, pursuit divisions. The Jäger Divisions were organized and equipped similar to that of the Mountain Divisions but without the specialized mountaineering equipment. On October 2ND 1942 distinctive sleeve insignia was introduced for all Jäger personnel to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the greatcoat, service and uniform tunics and the field blouse. Of Note: Distinct cap insignia was also introduced for Jäger personnel at the same time as the sleeve insignia. Regulations dictated that both the Jäger’s sleeve and cap insignia were to be removed if the individual was transferred out of a Jäger unit.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Machine woven, vertically oval, insignia features a woven, dark green rayon base with three, mid-green, oak-leaves and a single acorn with light green "veins" and a small, mid-brown, stem, all encompassed by a light green, simulated, twisted rope border. The insignia is still on its original, field-grey, rayon factory roll.
