H039494 CASED 6 X 30 POWER ISSUE FIELD BINOCULARS. (Doppelfernrohr)

BACKGROUND: The German army used a wide variety of optical enhancement items with the 6 x 30 power, (6 power magnification with a 30mm diameter objective lens), binoculars being the standard issue optics utilized by all branches of service. Although the 6 x 30 power binoculars were the standard issue, specialized personnel such as Artillery observers, Reconnaissance personnel, Searchlight personnel, etc., required stronger optics and assorted larger power binoculars were issued to these specialized personnel on a limited basis.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tooled alloy and aluminum construction, 6 x 30, power, binoculars with molded black bakelite and simulated leather fittings. The binoculars have molded, black bakelite eye sockets which are fully intact and the focus adjustment still functions. The optics look to be quite clear. The left lens has a horizontal, reticle pattern with vertical bars emanating from the center, outward, to either side in increments of 10 degrees up to 40 degrees to each side. The central lens joining bracket with swivel width adjustment is intact and still functions. The bottoms of the binocular lens bodies each have a raised, cut out bars designed to attach the carrying strap. The carrying strap is present (has one repair). The right hand side, ocular end, body panel is well marked with the impressed designation, "Dienstglas 6 x 30", (Service Glasses), a serial number, "242476", and the grid scale designation, "H/6400". The left hand side, ocular end, body panel is also well marked with impressed manufacturers name and location, "E. Leitz Wetzlar". Comes with a WW2 vintage Russian case.
