H032693 CORPS OF WOMEN SIGNAL AUXILIARIES CUFFTITLE. (Ärmelstreiffen für Nachrichtenhelferinnen des Heeres)

BACKGROUND: The female auxiliaries were originally utilized in a variety of administrative, communications and supply positions including secretaries, clerks, cooks, and supply coordination assistants. With the increase in administrative responsibilities of the German Armed Forces after the successful campaigns of 1939 and 1940 and the not so successful campaigns in 1941 the Germans began to actively encourage volunteer female auxiliary personnel to fill the additional positions. Females were drawn into military service with the Nachrichtenhelferinschaft des Heeres, (Female Signals Auxiliaries Corps of the Army ), and the Betreuungshelferinnenschaft, (Female Welfare Auxiliaries Corps), both established in October 1941, the Stabshelferinschaft des Heeres, (Female Staff Auxiliaries Corps of the Army), was established in February 1942 , the Bereiterinnenschaft, (Female Horse Breakers Corps), in 1943 and the Wirtschaftshelferin, ({Female} Economic Auxiliaries Corps), at an unknown date. On November 29TH 1944 all female auxiliary personnel in all three branches of service, Heer, Kriegsmarine Luftwaffe, (Army ,War Navy, Air-Force), were grouped together under the control of the newly established, "Wehrmachthelferinnenkorps", (Corps of Female Armed Forces Auxiliaries). Also Of Note: The Dienstverpflichtung, (Service Obligation), law of December 1941 followed by the Notdienstverpflichtung, (Emergency Service Obligation), law in 1944 both permitted drafting women between the ages of 18 and 40 years old into military service although neither of the laws were stringently enforced.
