H028189 TROPICAL MOTORCYCLIST'S/DISPATCH RIDER'S GAUNTLETS. (Handschuhe)

BACKGROUND: Motorcyclist’s/Dispatch rider’s were outfitted with special protective clothing that included the unique, motorcyclist’s protective coat and protective gauntlets with long, extended cuffs. Both the coats and gauntlets proved quite popular with the troops for their stylish appearance and serviceability and were commonly worn by non-motorcycle personnel in spite of regulations.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Olive drab canvas and tan leather construction gauntlets with sheet metal fittings feature a separate trigger finger and thumb, with grey leather palms and a field-grey canvas back. The gauntlets have long, extended canvas cuffs with dual, transverse, leather fit adjustment straps with field-grey painted, magnetic sheet metal, closures snaps. Both of the leather straps have bulbous ends and a small, rectangular, sheet metal, securing clip. One strap is positioned at the wrist and has a single female and two male snaps while the other strap is situated near the end of the extended cuff with a single female and male snap with an additional male snap on the cuff. Nicely maker marked and dated for 1942. Nice!
