H013471 ISSUE GAS MASK GLASSES WITH SERVICE CASE. (Dienst-Brille mit Kasten)

BACKGROUND: With the reintroduction of conscription in 1935, recruits were required to register at the nearest recruitment center where a physical examination, including an eye examination, was conducted to evaluate their suitability for active service. If found suitable the recruit would be inducted into active service and, if required, issue appropriate prescription service eye glasses. The service eye glasses all came housed in a standard issue carrying case.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The matte grey painted, magnetic sheet metal construction eye glasses frames feature dual circular eye sockets, an integral nose bridge and dual hinged plates to either side for the fabric tape "arms". The dual hinged side plates each have four vertical slashes to secure the fabric tape arms. The loosely woven grey tape arms are included. The fabric arms are inserted through both the top and bottom vertical slashes of the hinged side plates creating loops to be secured around the wearers ears. Prescription lenses are complete. Comes with a 13cm x 5cm x 2cm, matte grey painted, magnetic sheet metal service glasses case with fold back top lid with internal bar hinge to reverse. Case has black stenciled Gothic script, "Dienst-Brille", (Service -Glasses), to top lid. Case also contains a natural tan cardstock sheet with black printed script and spaces to write in the required information.
