H008091 JÄGER'S SLEEVE BADGE. (Jäger Ärmelabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: German Jäger Divisions were first formed in December 1940, by reorganizing Infantry Divisions into light, pursuit divisions. The Jäger Divisions were organized and equipped similar to that of the Mountain Divisions but without the specialized mountaineering equipment. On October 2ND 1942 distinctive sleeve insignia was introduced for all Jäger personnel to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the greatcoat, service and uniform tunics and the field blouse. Of Note: Distinct cap insignia was also introduced for Jäger personnel at the same time as the sleeve insignia. Regulations dictated that both the Jäger’s sleeve and cap insignia were to be removed if the individual was transferred out of a Jäger unit.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The insignia consists of a roughly, 2 1/2" tall, 1 7/8" wide, vertically oval, loosely woven field-grey cotton base featuring three machine embroidered oak-leaves in mid-green cotton threads, a brown stem and single acorn, all encompassed by a silvery/grey simulated twisted rope border. The insignia is in overall very good, clean condition with minimal edge fraying to the field-grey base.
