Roger Holdsworth (RCAF Lancaster Tail Gunner)

Roger (married to my Grandmothers cousin)... was a very interesting individual. He was actually an American who came to Canada in 1939 in order to join the RCAF. I still remember his uniform hanging in the closet, It was the typical RCAF four pocket blue.. But it had the duel Canada/USA shoulder flashes.

During the war Roger was a tail gunner in a Lancaster. He was an exceedingly quite individual & never really talked to much about his experiences during the war. All I was able to get out of him, was that there were shot down while returning from a mission and had to ditch their Lancaster in the English Channel in 1944.

Roger was an incredible collector of many things. The stamp collection he built was second to none and he all so put together a huge comic book collection in the 1950's, 60's & early 70's. Roger lived here in Fredericton until he passed away in the early 90's.

The above gloves are the actual example Roger wore while flying mission... I was lucky enough to get them maybe 15 years ago, just after he passed away.
